WHERE ARE WE NOW? 12 Months ago, we were threatened with closure and things looked very bleak. Although we are still 'not-out-of-the-wood,' we have done many positive things. First we called a Public Meeting asking the whole village whether they wanted to see the Chapel close. A group was formed called Friends Of Kingsley Holt Methodist Church, and this group promised to help us to raise the money for the jobs that needed doing and a committee was formed. They sang carols round the village last December, had two stalls at Froghall Station Family Weekend, had stalls at our Spring and Summer Fayres, organised a Carols Sing round the village again this December. Their fundraising has and continues to be a tremendous help to our Chapel. With regard to the Fabric Of The Chapel, we had a new Screen fitted between theChapel and the Meeting Room, which looks lovely and makes the place warm and safe, the old screen was dropping apart. We also had new curtains and a new Alter Cloth - greatly adding to the general comfort. We are doing lots of OUTREACH work and publish a monthly Newsletter about life in the village. Local news items are covered, details of Chapel Services are noted and whats going on at the Blacksmiths Arms (They have staged events for the Chapel). We record birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. Welcome new people to the village, send out Get Well Messages, welcome New Babies and remember people who have been bereaved. Cards are made for all of these people and are taken along to them personally with a bunch of floweres or a small gift. We advertised for a wheelchair to take people to either Monday Club or Chapel Service and were given two. Pop In (Mother and Toddlers /Babies Group meets each Tuesday in Chapel. This group has doubled in number in the last 12 months. Brownies and Rainbows also meet weekly in the Chapel, all of which has helped to increase the numbers attending Chapel. There have been a number of Services which have been very well attended. The Remebrance Service held this year was very special. Brownies and Rainbows had coloured poppies naming people to be remembered. The Chapel was full instead of it being a sombre occasion which would perhaps mean nothing to the younger ones. The Rev. Tina Swire made it a loving and caring service, relevent for all who attended. We decided to SUPPORT OUR SOLDIERS SERVING IN IRAQ and 26 shoe-boxes from Brownies, Rainbows and the Congregation containing items that would make the soldiers realise that they were loved and thought about were brought to the Alter along with the childrens poppies. The boxes will be distributed to soldiers in the Staffordshire Regiments. We thank God for the Rev. Tina Swire and for all those people who have achieved so much. We can now look forward to the next 12 months with a much greater degree of hopefulness. _______ |
